First of all it is necessary for the student to have ended his or her compulsory education. The youngest candidates must be 15 years old and will be 16 years old before the end of the year. The oldest are 18 years old for the girls (19 years before the end of the calendar year) and 20 years old for the boys.
You can ask you fill until March 1st. Every candidate send his registration form in which we ask for age, height, nationality and the parents’ authorization if they are underage. The international audition takes place every year from February to April. The audition lasts two days :
The first day, we select the students during several ballet classes. This technique is an essential base to prepare a professional way. All the girls dance on pointe shoes.
During the second day, the selected students present their personal works (variation). It can be classical repertory, modern dance, free variation, improvisation. It helps us to see the quality of movement, the personality of the student.
This variation cannot not exceed 2 minutes. The music is recorded on a tape, a minidisc or CD.
It is the second selection.
Then, the modern dance teacher proposes some exercises. The majority of the students havenever danced this technique. We evaluate the adaptation capacities, the way and the rapidity of understanding, the corrections, ….
It is the third selection.
The last students are admited to Rudra school.
Michel Gascard, the director, asked them to express themselves about their wishes, dreams, … .
The singing teacher asks them if they have a musical education, if they are play any instrument. She checks their voices to know the tessituras.
Before leaving, the students receive a complete information packet to help them : how the School runs, classes, vacation, performances, housing, insurances, student permit (Switzerland is not in the European community), … .
We are asked very often, what is the dance level to audition ?
Half of the students come from unknown private schools ! We are just looking for talented people with a large possibility of progression.
Sometime we refuse very good dancers because we consider that they need a company and not a school.
To summarize, you need a very good classical level. Concerning the height, we recommend to the girls to be between 1 meter 60 to 1meter 77 maximum.
Don’t forget that you also need a good body constitution (no anorexia or too much weight).
Our pedagogic system is based on the autonomy apprenticeship. We help the students in their life or to adapt themselves to the professional rhythm, we try to give instructions and to put into practices.
Very quickly, the students will know if they feel ready for this job.
The classes take place in the Foundation Béjart Ballet Lausanne’s studios where auditions were held.
The first class is at 9:00 and is a ballet class of 1hour, 45 minutes. Boys and girls are separated in two different classes.
Following the ballet class, there are two other classes of two hours each, with a 15 minute break.
These classes are modern dance and musical education (singing or percussion). The first and second years students are separated.
The lunch break is at 14:15 for 45 minutes.
The foundation self service canteen proposes different meals (carbohydrates, vegetables, fish and meat, desserts).
We organize in september a special masterclass in the international school : " Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne". The students learn how to cook the best food for a dancer.
The classes begin again at 15:00 :
– classical dance (pointe shoes for girls or boys class or Pas-de-deux)
– Maurice Béjart’s repertory
– Modern repertory (Graham, Limon, ….)
– Traditional dances (african, indian, …)
During certain periods, we organize theater or circus master classes.
The martial arts: Kendo is taught three times a week.
This discipline helps the students to develop their concentration, fighting spirit, to control their own personality….
The classes end around 19:00, but it is possible to work at the studio until 20h00.
Every class takes place from Tuesday to Sunday included. There are no classes on Monday.
The shedule is on the board and changes every week.
There is not a lot of time for studies. That’s why we recommend that you finish your studies before entering Rudra school. Some very talented students did their studies by correspondence courses. It is possible !
The classes, taught by the most highly qualified and experienced representatives from each of all disciplines are FREE.

Without subscriptions, our school has to make financial choices… .
The financial plan is with the generous participations of the foundations : Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Famille Sandoz, Leenaards foundation, Landolt Private Bank and Loterie Romande.
In concrete terms, the students have to pay for their room, food, insurances, dance clothes. We help them beginning the day that they audition. They receive a complete list of their obligations for the first day in September. Switzerland is not part of the in the European Community (EU) so the students need a foreign permit to stay in the country for two years. On your first day bring the documents to the school so that the office can checks that all is in order.
Vacations : one week during the autumn term; two weeks for Christmas/New Year; one month in August.
The performances : all students take part in the performances in Switzerland, in all Europe and sometimes further…
Since the school’s creation, we performed in all Europe, Russia and Japan. (especially in July for a summer tour).
The second year students audition in different companies from January to June to find a contract.
80 to 90 % of the students find a contract in a dance company during the second year in Rudra.
The others are working in the "performance world" (theater, singing, circus, musicals) or teaching.
100 % of the students (finishing in July 2007 and 2007) found a contract in a dance company !
